Teeth whitening is a safe and effective method that can produce a more radiant smile. However, it is important to note that the effects of teeth whitening are only temporary.

Teeth whitening will last longer if you avoid certain foods and beverages. Below are some of the foods and drinks that should consume sparingly:

1.) Coffee.

Is it really a surprise that this drink makes the list? Coffee is known for staining the teeth. Teeth are like pores, which means that they can absorb food and liquid. Just about any food or beverage that is dark-coloured will stain the teeth. If you are an avid coffee drinker who just cannot seem to kick the habit, try adding some cream and milk.

2.) Tea.

Tea is full of tannins. Green or white tea is a better alternative because it will not stain your teeth as much. Additionally, both green and white teas are packed with antioxidants. You also want to make sure that you avoid fruit teas because they are quite acidic.

3.) Red wine.

When Red wine is consumed in moderation, it is actually good for your body. However, it can also leave stains on your teeth. If you ever looked at your tongue after drinking a glass of wine, you can see exactly why this beverage stains your teeth.

4.) White wine.

White wine is not a better alternative. It is filled with acid that can do damage to your teeth. If you want to drink white wine, try it as a spritzer. You should also rinse your mouth out after you finish drinking it.

5.) Fizzy drinks.

Just about any drink that fizzles is bad for your teeth. That includes the diet drinks. Dark-coloured beverages are the worst because they contain citric and phosphoric acids, which also weaken the teeth. If you still decide to drink a fizzy beverage, drink it through a straw, so that less liquid comes in contact with your teeth.

6.) Fruit beverages.

Fruit beverages are great for you, but they contain acids that can erode your tooth enamel. The dark-coloured fruit drinks can also stain your teeth. It is better to eat a light-coloured fruit instead of drinking a fruit drink. You can also make your drink into a spritzer.

7.) Balsamic vinegar.

More people seem to be using olive oil and balsamic on their bread. You may have thought that balsamic vinegar could not harm your teeth. On the contrary, this yummy balsamic is bad for your smile. The good news is that if you use balsamic vinegar on salad, it may not be as bad. The lettuce can act as a barrier between the balsamic vinegar and your teeth. Unfortunately, lettuce in between the teeth is not considered attractive.

8.) Tomato sauces.

Tomato sauces contain many of the nutrients that your body needs. They are also very delicious. If you want to mitigate the effects of tomato sauce, eat it along with spinach and broccoli. Those foods have been shown to protect the teeth.

9.) Blueberries.

Blueberries are classified as a superfood because they are rich in antioxidants. The deep-colour on the berries is bad for your teeth. You should still eat blueberries, but you need make sure that you rinse your mouth thoroughly after eating.

10.) Curry.

Curry is a great Friday night snack. However, if you have ever spilled curry on your carpet or clothes, you know that it is a hard stain to remove. It can do the same thing to your teeth.
